Historia, arte y música en el manuscrito "La perla mystica" del monasterio de Santa Clara, Quito (1700-1718)

The religious texts written by Sr. Getrudes de San Ildefonso, Carmelite nun, born in Quito, were transcribed by her spiritual father and confessor, Martín de la Cruz, who, with theological commentary, increased the nun's devout pages until generating 2,000 pages in three volumes of prose and 39 illustrations: the manuscript entitled: "The mystic pearl, hidden in the shell of humility" (1700-1718). Catalina Andrango-Walker, Carmen Fernández-Salvador, Regina Harrison and Alison Weber analyze this work in order to expose the richness of the manuscript: the confessor-nun relationship, the doctrinal influence of the bishopric, the importance of the devout images included, and the value of the lyric and the colonial score, originals of the nun. The four researchers have had direct access to the complete manuscript and have read it with the perspectives of their various specialties (Harrison: ecclesiastical history, Weber: history of the female monacato, Fernández-Salvador: history of art and Andrango-Walker: history of music ).
